The Seniors game is now over, with Bill Thomson taking the win. He was the big stack with 1.5 million, while no one else had 500k, and the final 6 agreed to a chop that saw the other five players pocket $4,650 while Thomson took down his 6th Seniors game since 2017 for $10,765.
Kevin Kemna opened early to 225k, and it folded around to Mark Byczkiw in the big blind. He was very short, with just 220k, and called all in blind.
He got a bit of a shock when he rolled over his hand, showing two black aces. Kemna was suited in hearts with a king-five. Kemna found a king on the flop, but nothing more, and the aces held for a double.
That left Byczkiw playing 400k, while the chip leader by a mile is Bill Thomson after he cracked Jom Berry’s nines recently.
It was a blind on blind hand between the two chip leaders at the table. “I know if I just call, you’ll raise me,” Bill Thomson, in the small blind, said. Ultimately, he still decided to limp in.
His prediction was correct – big blind Jim Berry shoved 805k. That sent Thomson into the tank for a couple of minutes as he talked through his options before finally making the call.
Thomson was looking for an ace with ace-seven against pocket nines for Berry. Thomson found what he needed, and then some, on the A♣5♥3♣A♦7♠ board.
Berry had the big stack, but only by about 50k, which he lost on the next hand. Meanwhile, Thomson is now the big leader with about 1.5 million in play.

Jim Berry opened under the gun to 80k before Mark Byczkiw shoved for 170k from the hijack. After about 15 seconds of thought, Berry put in the call, but was dominated with king-jack versus ace-jack for Byczkiw, and the ace-jack held despite Berry flopping a gutshot.
The field is down to 7 in the Seniors game now. Level 23 has just under 25 minutes to play, and Denis Amirault was the most recent casualty from the final table. Amirault lost his stack with kings when he ran into aces for Kevin Kemna.
Kevin Kemna opened the button to 60k, and Todd “The Rock” called from the small blind. He checked the 5♠J♦7♦ flop, but then repopped to 200k after Kemna fired 70k. Kemna didn’t take long to get rid of his hand, sending the pot between the two chip leaders to The Rock and putting him in the lead now.
The Seniors game is down to 8 remaining now. Terrill Coughlin & Michael Huculak were the first players off the final table, for $1,141 & $1,317 respectively.
Todd the Rock is now playing about 700k after taking Huculak’s stack.
Petar Amic and Russ Sluchinski were the most recent busts from the Seniors, bringing the game down to the ten-handed final table. Stay tuned for final table faces shortly.
They are three off the final table now after Colin Burton hit the rail for 13th place just now. He was one of three players with less than 100k coming back from the break, so he came back to less than 5 big blinds.
I’ve just done a round of chip counts, and Kevin Kemna is still in the lead. He’s sitting on about the same stack he was earlier after his quads hand, with 675k in play. Bill Thomson and Jim Berry are both playing 570k, while Mark Byczkiw has just shy of 500k for 4th place. Jerry Nelner hit the rail in 14th place just before the break.
Mark Byczkiw limped in from the small blind before Bill Thomson repopped his big blind to 60k. “Fell into my trap,” Byczkiw said with a smile as he called.
“If it’s a trap, you should raise,” replied Thomson as the flop came 10♣K♣Q♣. They checked it through the 9♥7♥ board.
“I have a seven,” said Byczkiw, showing suited connectors. “That’s a trap?” Thomson asked. “This is a trap,” he added showing his queen-six offsuit for the flopped bigger pair.
There is a break coming in about 10 minutes with the end of Level 20, and I’ll grab full chip counts while they are away from the table. Meanwhile, below is a look at the final 14 players in action tonight, with Roberto Rodrigo taking the min-cash spot in 15th place for $702.
It was a bit of an epic bubble tonight, lasting a full level. They are now in the money with 15 players left, and the clock is running normally again, with 3 minutes to play in Level 19.
The Seniors are now on the money bubble with 16 players left. The clock is paused for hand-for-hand play, with 2 minutes coming off the clock manually for each hand played until the next elimination. It looks like they’ve played 3 hands with the clock paused so far, and Level 19 has just begun.
The Seniors game is now down to 18 players left on the final two tables. That puts them 3 eliminations away from the money. Among the players till alive are Todd The Rock, Russ Sluchinski, Bill Thomson, Colin Burton, Rob Bridger, Petar Amic, and Willie Hernandez.
The Seniors are on a break now, with the action set to resume in about 5 minutes for Level 17. 20 players are left in action, fighting for 15 paid spots.
Level 11 is nearly complete, and they just broke down to the final six tables with 54 players left in the action. January’s Seniors Ring Winner, Trevor Simpson, won’t be repeating in this one as he was one of the players to exit while they were still playing on 7 tables.

After a quick circuit around the room, I’ve identified a few more players of note in today’s remaining field, including Debi Loomer, Gerry Edwards, Mohsen Shafizadeh, Kelly Gall, Dave Howat, Jeff Forester, Jeet Shergil, Don Fujita, Colin Burton, Petar Amic, and defending ring champion Trevor Simpson.
The prizes are now posted, and the field is confirmed at 154 entries for prizes of $43,890. 15 players will share in that prize pool later tonight, with the min-cash set for $702, and nearly $11.5k up top for the winner.
Entries are now closed on the Seniors game, with the final tally at 154 unofficial entries. If that holds, it should mean 16 players grabbing a piece of just shy of $44k in prizes later tonight.
Rob Bridger, John Donnelly, Lap Chi Duong, Bill Thompson, Cliff Green, Jason Boyes, and Pam MacNaughton are among the familiar faces I’ve spotted in today’s field.
The final break with entries open is about to start, with the field at 154 entries. Among the players in the field are Todd “The Rock”, Russ Sluchinski, previous champ Grahan Lupton, Larry Quon, and Pete Fylyma.
Just under 15 minutes remain in Level 8, and entries will be closed when they return from the break that follows this level. The field just hit 150 entries, for prizes of almost $43k, but I still expect a few more rebuys before entries close for good on this game.
The 2026 Spring Super Stack is underway, and once again, the Seniors are kicking the series off in style. With the action on Level 3 just beginning, the field is just a few entries shy of 100. There are still about 3 hours left to enter the game today, with the first open-entry event this evening starting at 6 PM.
I am not on the floor for the Seniors game yet, as I expect it will be a late night tonight. I’ll pick up coverage of the Seniors action around the end of entries.
The 2026 Spring Super Stack at Deerfoot Inn & Casino is ready to roll. Live satellites for the series kick off on Tuesday, Apr 7, with two qualifier games at 2 and 6 PM, with the series proper starting at 11 AM on Wednesday morning with the Seniors game.
The Seniors game, which is restricted to players aged 50 or over, is the traditional series-starter here at Super Stack events. and despite the restricted field is still generally among the higher single-day fields of the entire series. Both the Spring & Summer Super Stacks in 2025 saw more than 170 entries for this one, and I expect this series to be in the same ballpark.
Players get 25k in chips for their $340, with $300 of that going to the prizes (minus 5% for AGLC charity & staff). Blind levels are 30 minutes long throughout the game, with 8 levels of open entry to start. That should put the last chance to enter the game at about 3:30 PM after the break following Level 8. The one-day game is expected to finish with no bags and a winner awarded sometime early Thursday morning.
